Best solar generators

24 power stations ranked by how fast they refill at full solar input, each matched with a panel inside its voltage limits. Ranked from the makers' manuals, not physically tested.

The 24 ranked, fastest refill first

Hours assume panels reach 75% of their rating. A panel match compares printed numbers and is not a maker's approval. Work out your own panels and state.

What a solar generator is

A solar generator is a battery station plus solar panels that refill it. The station holds the energy and makes the AC power, and the panels plug into its solar port. The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus is a typical case: a 1,024 Wh LFP battery with an XT60i solar port that takes up to 1,000 W. Counted as hours to refill at full solar input, with the panels assumed to reach 75% of their rating, the DELTA 3 Plus and BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 lead at 1.4 hours each.

How many watts of panels to use

Panel watts only help up to the station's solar cap. The DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus hold the same 1,024 Wh, yet the DELTA 3 accepts 500 W and refills in 2.7 hours while the Plus accepts 1,000 W and refills in 1.4. The Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 accepts 600 W and needs 2.3 hours. Panels added beyond a station's limit do not shorten the refill. Match the total panel rating to the cap, and plan for panels that deliver less than their printed rating, since the 1.4 hour figure assumes 75%.

Why the voltage window matters

Every solar port prints a voltage window, and the panels must sit inside it. The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus takes 11 to 55 V and the DELTA 3 Plus takes 11 to 60 V. The EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 takes 30 to 150 V, and the DELTA Pro Ultra X takes 80 to 500 V over MC4. Panels wired in series add their voltages, so a string can overshoot a low ceiling or fall under a high floor. Whether the maker approves a given third-party panel is a separate question from the window.

How long solar refilling takes

At full solar input, refills run from 1.4 to 3 hours. Size and input rating move the number together. The Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus holds 5,040 Wh and accepts 4,000 W, so it needs 1.7 hours. The EcoFlow DELTA Pro holds 3,600 Wh but accepts 1,600 W, which makes it the slowest at 3 hours. Small units stay quick as well, with the RIVER 3 Plus at 220 W and the BLUETTI Elite 10 Mini at 100 W both at 1.7 hours. Fewer panel watts than the cap stretches every figure.

Which size to pick

The 286 Wh RIVER 3 Plus weighs 10.36 lb and outputs 600 W, a fit for phones, laptops and lights. The 1,024 Wh DELTA 3 Plus outputs 1,800 W at 27.6 lb. The Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus stores 2,042.8 Wh, outputs 3,000 W and weighs 61.5 lb. For 120/240 V split-phase output, look at the BLUETTI Apex 300 at 2,764.8 Wh and 3,840 W, or the Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus at 3,840 Wh and 6,000 W. The EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra X reaches 12,288 Wh and 12,000 W.

Running a refrigerator

Two numbers decide it. The station's AC output has to exceed the refrigerator's running watts, and its surge figure has to exceed the startup watts, figures you can look up on the appliance label. The DELTA 3 Plus lists 1,800 W with 3,600 W of surge, and the Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 lists 2,000 W with 3,000 W. How long the fridge keeps running comes from usable watt-hours: the Plus has an 870 Wh estimate and the Jackery Explorer 1500 Ultra has 1,306 Wh. Divide by the fridge's average draw.

FAQ

What are the top five solar generators by refill time?

The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 at 1.4 hours, the BLUETTI Apex 300 at 1.5, then the EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra X and Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus at 1.6 each.

How long will a 1,000 Wh solar generator run a refrigerator?

Take the usable estimate, 870 Wh on the DELTA 3 Plus, and divide it by the refrigerator's average watts. The station also needs 1,800 W of AC output and 3,600 W of surge to cover startup.

Can a solar generator run a house?

Only as far as its watts and watt-hours reach. The DELTA Pro Ultra X lists 12,000 W of AC, 12,288 Wh and 10,000 W of solar input, and it can grow to 61,440 Wh with extra batteries.

How long do solar generators last?

Makers rate them in charge cycles. The DELTA 3 Plus lists 4,000 cycles to 80% capacity, the Apex 300 lists 6,000 to 80%, and the Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus lists 4,000 to 70%.

Which station accepts the most solar watts?

The DELTA Pro Ultra X, at 10,000 W through MC4 ports. Next is the Explorer 5000 Plus at 4,000 W, then the Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus at 3,200 W.

Does a small solar generator refill as fast as a large one?

Often, because refill time depends on input relative to capacity. The 286 Wh RIVER 3 Plus takes 1.7 hours at 220 W, the same as the 5,040 Wh Explorer 5000 Plus at 4,000 W.
