Expansion battery rules by brand: generation locks and counts

Each maker sets a pack count and a generation lock. The Jackery Explorer 1000 Plus takes up to 3 packs for 5,058.56 Wh, and EcoFlow's DELTA Pro 3 takes 2 for 12,288 Wh. A pack for one generation often does not fit the next.

Generation locks

Jackery's listing for the Battery Pack 1000 Plus says it is not compatible with the HomePower 1000 Plus v2. The v2 station's own listing says it works only with the Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2. The older 2000 Plus and 1000 Plus packs are out. Two products named Plus with a similar port still need two different packs.

EcoFlow draws the same line. A store note on the DELTA Pro 3 says it is not compatible with the DELTA Pro or DELTA Pro Ultra. So the older DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery is not a fit for it. EcoFlow's DELTA 3 manual runs the other direction. It lists four packs it accepts: the DELTA 2, DELTA 2 Max, DELTA Pro 3 and DELTA 3 extra batteries.

Anker leaves some models closed. Its comparison table lists the C1000 Gen 2 as not expandable. The BP1000 pack belongs to the earlier C1000 and C1000X.

Pack counts and totals

The count is part of the rule, and so is the total it produces.

The totals include the station's own battery, so a printed maximum is the whole system and not the packs alone. A Jackery Explorer 1000 Plus holds 1,264.64 Wh. With three identical packs the system reaches 4 times that figure.

Jackery Explorer 1000 Plusup to 3 packs, 5,058.56 Wh total
Jackery HomePower 1000 Plus v2up to 5 Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2, 11,264 Wh total
EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3up to 2 extra batteries, 12,288 Wh total
Anker F30001 to 3 BP3000 packs, 12,288 Wh total
Bluetti AC200Lup to 2 B500K packs, 12,288 Wh total

Large systems

Big stations count packs per inverter. EcoFlow's DELTA Pro Ultra connects up to 5 batteries to one inverter, which makes 30,720 Wh. Its manual allows up to 15 batteries across 3 inverters. Jackery's Battery Pack 5000 Plus is for the Explorer 5000 Plus only, with up to 5 packs and 30,240 Wh in total.

A printed total that large is a maker figure for the whole system. A pack's own weight is part of the same decision: 81.57 lb for the Jackery 5000 Plus pack.

Mixing packs

Some limits count the total and not the type. EcoFlow's manual for the RIVER 3 Plus allows one extra battery, either the EB300 or the EB600 but not one of each. Bluetti's AC200L listing allows up to 2 B210, or 1 B230, or 2 B300. Bluetti's FAQ states that the AC300 cannot connect B300, B300K and B300S packs together. On the AC500, a mix of B300S and B300 is capped at 4 packs in total, against 6 B300S alone.

A few batteries are not native expansion packs at all. Bluetti describes its B80 as a Power Bank Mode source for some AC and Elite stations. It does not state a pack count for any of them.

Where makers disagree with themselves

Jackery's station manual for the Explorer 2000 Plus says up to 5 packs. The battery pack's own manual says up to 10 sets can be used together. When two documents from one maker differ, the station manual is the one that names the port limit. The expansion battery matcher lists the count it uses for each pair.

FAQ

Can I mix old and new battery packs on one station?

Not when a maker locks generations. Jackery's HomePower 1000 Plus v2 works only with the v2 pack. EcoFlow says the DELTA Pro 3 does not take DELTA Pro batteries.

Does the maximum system size include the base unit?

Yes for the figures printed here. Jackery's Explorer 1000 Plus total of 5,058.56 Wh is 1,264.64 Wh multiplied by 4, which is the station plus three packs.

Do all four brands let me add capacity?

Not on every model. Anker lists the C1000 Gen 2 as not expandable. Bluetti says one of its Elite models does not support battery expansion, though a B80 can charge it in Power Bank Mode.
